Thousands without power as Status Orange wind warning starts in Limerick

THOUSANDS of people have been left without power in County Limerick as Storm Isha bares its teeth.

The west of the county has been the worst affected thus far with 2,113 customers in Abbeyfeale looking for candles and 992 in Newcastle West. Around 500 customers in Ballycummin in the city, 500 in Knockong and 50 customers in Knockainey are also without power.

The Status Orange wind warning for Limerick came into effect at 5pm and is valid until 2am on Monday morning.

The ESB says fallen electricity wires are live and dangerous.

"Never approach or touch them. Call our emergency service immediately on 1800 372 999 (+353 21 2382410), 999 or 112," say the ESB.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is asking road users to exercise caution while using the roads.
