LIMERICK man Darragh Fitzgerald expressed his thoughts on men's mental health while featuring as one of the five leaders in this years series of Operation Transformation on RTÉ.

On the second episode of the show, which aired last night, former rugby player Darragh spoke about his struggles of being a father to two young children, Rian (8) and Roisin (2) and a partner to his his fiancé Yvonne.

The Corbally native went on to say during the show "My emotions have been all over the place the last few weeks and I think men have this stigma where we think we are the man of the house or the partner or the father and you are supposed to be this alpha male.

"I think men just need to talk more just let people know how they are feeling because what is the point in bottling it up really."

During the programme Darragh checked in with host Kathryn Thomas and the experts on the show to check was his new meal plan and exercise regime working.

The 37 year-old started the show on 132 kilos and within just one week his weight went down to 126.4 kilos, loosing 12 pounds during that time period.

Teary-eyed after hearing this figure Darragh stated "That is just great, it is why I am here. This weight loss reinforces everything that you are doing for me."

Operation Transformation airs Wednesdays 9:35pm on RTÉ One & RTÉ Player.
