Three babies were born at University Maternity Hospital Limerick in the first few hours of 2024
THE FIRST baby born in Limerick in 2024 arrived shortly after midnight in the region's maternity hospital.
The University Maternity Hospital Limerick (UMHL) confirmed that a little boy was delivered at the Ennis Road facility, at approximately 12:40am.
He was born weighing 3.8 kilogrammes, with the mother and baby doing really well.
His family, who hail from Castletroy, have requested all other details be kept private.
The infant was the fourth baby brought into the world in hospitals across Ireland so far this year, and the second outside Dublin.
The Rotunda Hospital in the capital saw the first baby in the State, baby Arlo Robert Emmett, born to Nicole and Robert Emmet from Meath at 12:04am.
Two minutes later, the first baby girl of 2024 arrived to proud mother Sundas Khan in the Coombe Hospital.
Back in Limerick, a second little boy came into the world at 1:36am to family from Clare, who again, wish to remain anonymous.
The youngster weighed in a 3.2 kilogrammes, with mum and baby doing well.
The first girl born in UMHL arrived just before six o'clock this New Year's Day morning to a mother from Charleville. She weighed in at 3.5kg.
