TWO LIMERICK-based projects have won road safety awards at the annual Road Safety Authority (RSA) Leading Light Awards.
University of Limerick’s Smarter Travel Project has been awarded the Road Safety Authority Sustainable Travel Award in road safety for 2023.
An Garda Síochána’s Lifesaver Project has been awarded the Road Safety Authority Education Third Level Award.
The awards were presented to the two projects by chairperson of the RSA, Liz O’Donnell, at the RSA’s Leading Lights in Road Safety Awards in the RDS on Thursday, December 7.
Set up in 2013, the University of Limerick Smarter Travel Project aims to continuously promote sustainable and safe travel modes for its entire campus community, which currently has over 20,000 staff and students.
The Lifesaver Project is a strategic collaboration between An Garda Síochána, Limerick City and County Council, HSE, Ambulance Services and the City and County Fire and Rescue Services.
Originally started in 2006, the Lifesaver Project has sought to target the road safety education needs in Limerick city and county through a sustainable programme.
A total of 12 categories and one special recognition award were presented.
