Padraig Collins, Audrey Byrnes, Joanne Collins and Cllr PJ Carey
SINN FEIN has a four-pronged approach - as it stands - for next year’s local elections in Limerick county.
Kilmallock-based councillor PJ Carey will once again put his name forward as one of the party’s two candidates in the Cappamore-Kilmallock Municipal District.
First-time candidate, Audrey Byrnes, based in Murroe, is also hoping to be one of the seven to be elected.
Elsewhere, Padraig Collins, Tournafulla, has been selected to run in the Newcastle West Municipal District.
Joanne Collins, Sinn Féin's general election candidate for County Limerick, has been chosen to run in the local elections in Adare-Rathkeale.
Ms Collins said they have selected a very strong team heading into next year’s local elections representing all three local electoral areas.
“This is a team of dedicated activists who are very active in each of their communities. We have been very immersed in all communities around County Limerick, engaging with local residents and businesses to ensure we know the issues arising which need to be addressed, not just locally, but nationally also,” said Ms Collins.
The local and general election candidate said Sinn Féin’s aim is to form the next government.
“This will start next year at the polling stations of the local and European Elections. A strong local representation will build the foundation for an even stronger Sinn Féin government to tackle housing, healthcare and the cost of living crises for the people of County Limerick,” said Ms Collins.
Cllr Carey said he is looking forward to campaigning alongside Ms Byrnes as they try to take two of the seven seats in the traditionally-strong Fianna Fail and Fine Gael municipal district.
Cllr Carey cited more visible policing, community development, affordable housing and the environment among his priorities.
Ms Byrnes, who works as a parent support / information officer with Dochas Mid-West Autism Support and enjoys volunteering in community groups such as Murroe-Boher GAA and Killinure NS Parents Council, will prioritise youth services, transport, housing and safer roads.
