DUTCH ambassador Maaike van Koldam paid a visit to the Limerick Enterprise Development Partnership campus in Roxboro as part of her ongoing visit to Ireland.

During her time on the campus last Wednesday, the ambassador of the Netherlands met with students across the city who are part of the LEDP and UL collaboration.

The ambassador was welcomed by the LEDP CEO Niall O'Callaghan and his team, who provided an overview of the charity's activities and impact in the community since it's establishment 25 years ago in response to the closure of Moulinex-Krups factory.

Earlier in the day, the Dutch ambassador met with Limerick City and County Council's chief executive Dr Pat Daly and Mayor Gerald Mitchell.

Ambassador van Koldam held a discussion at the campus covering topics like enterprise, renewable energy, and active mobility, including new cycling infrastructure in the Roxboro area that will expand transport options for people on the southside of Limerick.

Being a recent diplomat in Ukraine, van Koldam met with a group of Ukrainians now based in Limerick who are participating in English language classes being overseen by the UL AccessCampus team at LEDP.

“Inclusion has to be at the heart of policymaking at all levels. What is being accomplished in Limerick in areas as diverse as expanding the cycle lane infrastructure to new communities or giving Ukrainian arrivals the language skills and opportunities they need to succeed is an example for all of us.”
