A UNIQUE exhibition looking at the futility of violence through quilting will open in Limerick this weekend.

St Mary's Cathedral at Bridge Street in the city centre is to play host to the display, which features work by Ann McCabe, who lost her husband to IRA forces in Adare back in 1996.

The exhibition is being curated in Limerick by local artist Kate Hennessy, who lives in the city centre, and all begins at 1pm this coming Sunday, November 19.

Works will be on display until 5pm on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

The group primarily responsible for bringing the quilt exhibition to Limerick is the South East Fermanagh Foundation, set up in 1998 to provide practical and emotional support to people who have been through traumatic experiences as a result of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

Director Kenny Donaldson said the key message from the memorial quilt exhibition is that violence is futile and unjustified, the legacy of those represented lives on, and those remembered who were murdered are wholly innocent.

"Each of the Quilt brand titles reflect core messages we wish to represent through the lives being remembered and also honoured. The basis for the quilts can be found in comments made by many families, no-one remembers us, no-one cares, we are forgotten. The SEFF family always remembers and will continue to do so in the months and years ahead, thus ensuring that the legacy of innocents and the way in which they chose to live their lives is represented," he added.

All are welcome to the launch of the exhibition this Sunday.
