Calls for separate plan for Limerick's ‘jewel in the crown’

Calls for separate plan for Limerick's ‘jewel in the crown’

Adare-Rathkeale councillors want the Adare Local Area Plan separated from the Limerick Public Realm Plan

CALLS have been made for the separation of the Adare Local Area Plan (LAP) and the Limerick Public Realm Plan (PRP) to allow for “proper due process” and “engagement” of the two documents.

A decision was made to amalgamate the Adare LAP and the Limerick PRP by the executives in Limerick City and County Council and according to a local councillor the executives are “not prepared to separate the two at this stage”.

“This is frustrating as I believe the two documents deserve to be dealt with separately,” Fine Gael Cllr for the Adare-Rathkeale area, Adam Teskey said.

Councillors are calling for the separation of the documents to allow for proper engagement in relation to the two documents.

“It can be quite overwhelming for any member of the public to understand the vast amount of detail that’s included when you put both of the documents together,” Cllr Teskey said.

“One document looks at the future planning and how to plan for the environment going forward in terms of future population growth and needed infrastructure and the other looks at the aesthetics in the area, and how you can make it appeal to a wider audience.

“They should be of course cross-referenced from each other but certainly not amalgamated, duplication needs to be avoided,” Cllr Teskey added.

Fianna Fáil Cllr, Kevin Sheahan also called for the separation of the two documents referring to Adare as the “jewel in the crown” of Limerick especially when it comes to tourism.

Independent Cllr John O’Donoghue called for the chief executive at LCCC to attend the next meeting of the Municipal District of Adare-Rathkeale to discuss the matter further.

Calls were made for the motion to be brought to a full council meeting of Limerick City and County Council if necessary as the situation was described as “appalling”.
