THERE are plenty of 'Spooktacular' events happening throughout Limerick this Halloween.
One of the biggest events will take place in nearby Clare with the Monsters, Misfits and Mayhem celebration set to take over Bunratty Castle this weekend.
From ghosts swooping from the skies to a deathly torture chamber in the castle basement and from the witches’ kitchen to the haunted train that snakes through the Folk Park, no gravestone will be left unturned at the 26-acre visitor attraction this Halloween weekend.
Monsters, Misfits and Mayhem takes place from 10:30am to 1:30pm and 2pm to 5pm each day from Saturday October 28 to Monday October 30.
Meanwhile, the Samhain Festival will feature a number of spooky events in venues throughout the city from October 26-28.
Ghost stories, musical performances and a special parade are just some of the special events taking place.
On Thursday at 4:30pm at Lumen Street Theatre, Eddie Lenihan will be telling folktales which has been described as the "highlight of the festival".
Later that night, Eddie will be telling more tales (that are not for the faint hearted!) at Treaty City Brewery at 7pm.
On Friday, brave souls will take to the River Shannon from 5pm for the annual Samhain Swim.
From Murder to Miscarriage with Caoimhe Tobin, a special talk will introduce the audience to the subject of osteoarchaeology, itself a sub discipline of archaeology.
This event takes place at 6:30pm at Curraghgour Boat Club.
If that doesn't tickle your spooky bone, then perhaps a rather unusual event at 7:30pm held in Jack Monday's will be more up your street.
At the Death Café people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. The objective is “to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives”.
Lumen Street Theatre’s three-day festival celebrating the Irish origins of Halloween will culminate with a light filled parade through Nicholas Street on Saturday at approximately 7pm.
The procession of lanterns made by local communities will be a focal point, which will conclude at the Potato Market.
Dress in your Halloween outfit and come line the streets of the Medieval quarter of Limerick to celebrate Samhain and cheer the spectacle on.
At the Jetland Shopping Centre, children who may not want to be scared senseless can take part in the Happy Halloween Experience.
The experience is hosted by Hattie O’Goodspell, the beloved good witch of Munster, in her magical house.
Hattie will welcome children into her home to show off all of her spooky collection and amaze them with her display of magical spells.
Towns and villages throughout the county will be hosting local events and festivals. You can find out more information all the events above on Limerick.ie
