Flood model determines raising of barriers in Limerick city

INFORMATION from a so-called “flooding forecast model” determines when local authority staff erect flood barriers around Limerick city.

The information from roads executive Mike Richardson, was revealed on foot of a question to this month’s metropolitan district meeting from Councillor Sharon Benson, Sinn Fein.

He wrote: “This model is prepared from various forecast information which includes Shannon Dock tide times, the Office of Public Work’s flood surge model, ESB’s Shannon Level Forecast and Met Eireann weatherforecasts.”

The base level of the barriers are in place from October until the following summer.
