LIMERICK City and County Council is to take over the maintenance and upkeep of the majority of a city centre quayside area.
But private clamping will remain in place at the site.
At this month's metropolitan district meeting, members approved the so-called 'taking in charge' of Steamboat Quay.
Council will spend €908 per year in the operation and upkeep of the public lighting.
But two areas of Steamboat Quay which will not be taken over by the local authority are the banks of car-parking spaces.
There are three bays which can accommodate approximately 30 cars on the site.
Unlike most car on-street parking spots in the city,, these spaces are managed by a private company.
Motorists will still have to pay for parking in the these spaces, with signs warning of clamping being in operation for those who do not do this.
As it stands, despite the council takeover, the status quo will remain.
A council spokesperson confirmed this is the case.
