Assault on teen in Limerick city park leads to garda investigation

A LIMERICK city assault that took place in People's Park last Thursday, has left a 15-year-old victim with a broken jaw and broken teeth, prompting an investigation by gardaí.

Sergeant Ber Leetch, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street garda station, has issued a plea for witnesses to come forward, shedding light on the incident and its aftermath.

Sgt Leetch revealed that the assailant, an unidentified male believed to be around 17 to 18 years old, approached the teenage victim while he was in People's Park after school.

The assailant, described as having an Irish accent and sporting a grey Adidas tracksuit, is said to have confronted the young man and initiated a confrontation by challenging him to a fight.

When the teenager refused, the situation took a violent turn and the victim was struck eight to nine times in the face before the attacker fled the scene.

It was said by Sgt Leetch that the 15-year-old victim now faces extensive medical treatment to repair his broken jaw and teeth, including the insertion of a metal plate.

She urged anyone who may have witnessed the assault or possesses information related to the incident to come forward and aid the investigation by contacting the Roxboro garda station at 061 214340 or using the garda confidential line at 1800 666111.
