ONE LIMERICK hotel is celebrating a double triumph as it proudly announces its reception of the esteemed Eco-Label Award from Green Hospitality Ireland and a Silver Green Tourism Accreditation Award from Green Tourism Ireland.
Recent initiatives by the Limerick Strand Hotel include the installation of bird nest and insect boxes, providing shelter and nesting facilities to many types of insects in all seasons. It may provide a temporary or permanent home for solitary bees or wasps or be a safe space for insects to hatch. All the bugs are essential to healthy ecosystems, pollination and soil quality and attract birds, for whom they have placed a new nesting box that will hopefully become home to chicks soon.
Interim General Manager, Imelda Lineen, said: "We are delighted to be acknowledged for our efforts in reducing our ecological footprint and promoting eco-friendly practices within our establishment. Receiving the Eco-Label Award and a Silver Green Tourism Accreditation is not just an achievement; it is a pledge to our guests, our community, and the planet."
The Green Hospitality Programme, hailed as the Irish Hospitality, Travel & Tourism Resource for Sustainable and Responsible Tourism, was created with the goal of offering comprehensive environmental management advice and support to the hospitality sector.
In tandem, Green Tourism Ireland, an organisation devoted to promoting a greener and cleaner environment, has recognised the hotel's eco-friendly achievements with their internationally respected accreditation program, which includes Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards.
In a further demonstration of their dedication to sustainability, the hotel has appointed Kate Wieczorkiewicz as Back of House and Sustainability Manager. With over a decade of experience in the hospitality and retail sectors and a recent qualification in Environment, Sustainability, and Climate from University College Cork, Kate is poised to drive The Limerick Strand Hotel's sustainability efforts to new heights.
"Together, we can make a positive impact on the environment, and we invite everyone to join us on this important journey towards a greener and more sustainable future," added Imelda Lineen.
