National Irish Pony club Connolly's Red Mills junior eventing championship winners Ciara Lane, Jonty Purcell, Nadine Lane and Meabh O'Brien, all of Scarteen Hunt Pony Club
ANOTHER All-Ireland title has come home to Limerick with a little help from Tipperary!
Four members of Scarteen Hunt Pony Club made history recently as they won the prestigious National Irish Pony Club Connolly Redmills Junior Eventing Championship at Tattersalls, Co Meath.
Meabh O’Brien, daughter of Colm and Isabel O’Brien of Pallasgreen, was riding Sleady Castle Mona; twins Ciara Lane, (Lough Derg Cooper) and Nadine Lane (Jamie Son), daughters of Kevin and Bernie Lane, Ballylanders and Jonty Purcell (FHS Felicity), son of Ken and Melanie Purcell, of Emly, made up the winning team.
No doubt Jonty's late and great grandfather Phil Purcell was looking down proudly as he was a lifelong horseman as well as being a prominent auctioneer with GVM.
This was an amazing feat by the four youngsters considering three disciplines had to be mastered - dressage, showjumping and cross country over a weekend.
The three girls and one boy have added their own piece of history to this renowned equestrian heartland in the Golden Vale.
It is also a huge achievement for the renowned Scarteen Hunt Pony Club and the four riders who were presented with the prestigious Tommy Brennen trophy.
The cup will have the Scarteen name engraved on it for the first time since its inception in 1990.
Meabh, Ciara, Nadine and Jonty took on the best young horsemen and horsewomen in the country to claim the title and bring another All-Ireland back to the current long-term home of the Liam MacCarthy Cup.
Although Liam Cahill and Tipperary will have something to say about that next year!
