A PEDESTRIAN who died after an incident on a County Limerick road earlier this week has been named locally.

Tributes have been paid to Johnny Enright, aged in his 70s, who was pronounced deceased at the scene of the incident which occurred on Wednesday evening, on the N69, Glin to Tarbert road.

A Glin native, Mr Enright was a retired farmer who previously worked with Limerick City and County Council.

He has been remembered as a quiet man, a very gentle soul and an absolute gentleman, whose passing has left a “very sad air” in the Glin community.

Speaking of the untimely passing of the pensioner, Cllr John Sheahan said: “There was a very sad air about Glin the other morning when the news broke that Johnny unfortunately lost his life.

“He was a quiet man and kept very much to himself. He was well known in the community. He buried a brother recently. We were very sad to hear the news, and pass our sympathies to the Enright family,” he told the Limerick Leader / Limerick Live.

Other tributes have been paid online.

“Very sorry to hear of Johnnies tragic and untimely death, may he RIP. An absolute gentleman, I had the pleasure of working with Johnny In Tarbert Island in the early 1970’s …commiserations to his immediate and extended family,” wrote someone in tribute.

Another person wrote: “So very sorry for the sad loss of John. We would meet every Sunday at Glin mass. He was a very gentle soul. His mam and my mam were great friends back in the day. So very sad. Rest in peace.”

Johnny Enright is predeceased by his parents Denis and Anne; brothers Patrick, Tom and Danny, nephew Denis and niece Mary.

He will be fondly remembered by his loving aunt Nora Gromann, his nephew Donnacha, his nieces Carol Ann, Isabel, Patricia, Marthina, Sharon and Danielle, sisters-in-law Marian and Ann, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, extended family, relatives as well as by his neighbours and many friends.

May he rest in peace.

Funeral arrangements to be announced later.
