A still from the video which has been widely circulated on the internet
AN INCIDENT which is understood to have occurred in Limerick city in recent days and which saw a missile being thrown into a front yard of a home has been described as “frightening”.
A one-minute-long video which has been shared widely on social media over the weekend shows three men attacking a home in the Garryowen area as well as vandalising a number of parked cars.
The footage was recorded by an individual positioned behind a car parked across the road from the house in question, out of sight of the assailants.
In the video one of the men is seen firing material over the high, front garden wall of a semi-detached home. Within seconds, flames and plumes of black smoke rise from behind the wall before what looks like a bin is thrown at the men from inside the yard.
Two of the three men positioned outside the front wall are bare chested with white material wrapped around their face and necks. The men are seen belting the doors and windows of two cars parked outside the home, with implements, resulting in smashed windows.
Two of the assailants are then picked up by the driver of a white car which then drives off at speed.
Having seen the footage, Councillor Kieran O'Hanlon said: "I'm appalled this could happen in a settled area like Garryowen. It's very frightening for residents in the house, and also the neighbours around there must feel terrible that it's happened.
"I have been engaging with council and gardai about getting CCTV cameras in Garryowen. At present, there's one camera. It's totally insufficient. This again highlights the fact we do need cameras in Garryowen," added the Fianna Fail member.
