Thousands in funding injections set for Limerick museums to enchance exhibitions

The Hunt Museum and the Limerick Museum have both secured funding

TWO LIMERICK museums are set to receive substantial funding injections in efforts to preserve and showcase the city's unique heritage.

A substantial sum of €174,434 allocated under the Regional Museum Exhibitions Scheme 2023, has been allocated by Minister Catherine Martin to go towards 16 carefully curated projects, and among the beneficiaries stands the Limerick Museum, securing a grant of €10,200 for its captivating 'Postcards from Limerick' exhibition.

Timed with the 1,100th anniversary of Limerick city, this exhibition embarks on a mesmerising journey through time, guided by an impressive collection of over 4,000 postcards.

Moreover, the Hunt Museum, is set to receive an even more significant allocation of €15,000 for its visionary exhibition titled 'Nights candles are burnt out’: Climate, Culture, Change & Community. This exhibition aims to use the power of art and culture to engage people emotionally with the existential threat of climate change to encourage behavioural change.

The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, in a statement, emphasises the profound role that local and regional museums play in shaping local identities: "Our local and regional museums are an extremely important resource for accessing culture and heritage in towns and villages across the country, and I am very pleased to be able to support their renewal and development through the Regional Museum Exhibition Scheme."

She continued: "Funding provided under this scheme allows local and regional bodies to continue to enhance their exhibitions, which improves the cultural offering for their communities and visitors."
