LIMERICK student Tara Madigan has won three gold medals at the British Transplant Games.
Madigan won the Long Jump, the 5km Road Race and also the 200m in the Under 18 age-group.
Tara is a student at Castletroy College and underwent a liver transplant in 2012. She is part of a 34 member squad that travelled to the games in Coventry where there will be over 1000 transplant recipients taking part.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree for Tara as she is the great-granddaughter of the late Limerick hurling legend Mick Mackey.
It was a very emotional day last Sunday for the Limerick student as she met the mother of her donor her came support her at the games.
Fellow Limerick native, Trevor Lynch, originally from Cappamore but living in Buckinghamshire also competed successfully.
Trevor received bone marrow transplants in 2014 and in 2016 to treat lymphoma. He scooped gold medals in the 800m and 1500m and a sliver medal in the 5k race.
The Irish team overall won 16 gold, nine sliver and six bronze medals, making the 2023 Transplant Games Squad the most successful team ever.
