LIMERICK swimmer Denis O'Brien was in action for Ireland this morning in the 400m Freestyle heats at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Slovenia.
O’Brien got a personal best and finished second in the heat but unfortunately his time of 4:07:58 was not enough to progress to the final.
The talented Limerick swimmer claimed a 14th-place finish overall, but was not enough for O'Brien to progress to the final.
Denis will get another opportunity to get to a final as he competes in the 1500m freestyle this evening at 7:20 and again on Thursday at 9:30 in the 200m competition.
O'Brien is part of a 42-strong Irish party that is travelling to Maribor for the games that take place until July 29. Ireland has youngsters competing in Athletics, Cycling, Gymnastics and Tennis as well as Swimming.
Mungret Community College student Denis O'Brien is heading into 5th year when the new school year starts but has a busy time ahead in Slovenia.
