A NEW CYCLE lane linking Patrickswell and Adare villages in Limerick will not go ahead for the time being, it’s been revealed.
At a meeting of the metropolitan district, a list was provided to councillors outlining Active Travel schemes which have been approved.
According to the rundown, all but one project was either ‘approved’ or ‘approved in principle’.
It is a proposed lane for bikes between Patrickswell and Adare which is the odd one out. Some €50,000 was set aside for the design of a segregated cycle lane along the Old Adare Road, over Mount Earl Bridge.
Patrickswell-based councillor Daniel McSweeney says the development is disappointing.
“Overall it's very disappointing. The people of Adare and Patrickswell have waited for the greenway extension to come. It’s moving at a very very slow pace, and I believe this would have been a brilliant interim measure to link the places.”
Separately, proposed footpaths at Rosbrien Road, Rhebogue Hill, Mountshannon Road, Condell Road and Drombanna were on the approved list.
