“THEY call him God,” says a former club officer of Feohanagh/Castlemahon GAA of All-Star-winning hurler Seamus Flanagan.

Seamus will be taking to the pitch this Sunday as the Limerick senior hurling team face Clare in the Munster final. However, the Feohanagh/Castlemahon man will be faced with a familiar familial battle.

The Limerick star who usually plays full forward could be matched up against his first cousin Paul Flanagan who usually plays right cornerback for the Banner.

This isn’t the first time the pair have been pitted against each other on the big stage (as it is the second meeting in this year’s Munster Championship alone) and it likely won’t be the last.

A former club officer for Feohanagh/Castlemahon had nothing but praise for the Flanagan clan.

“They’re a great, honest hurling family,” they said. “We’re just very proud of Seamus, they call him God in these parts.”

Seamus’ father, John, and Paul’s father Eamonn, were proud Feohanagh/Castlemahon GAA men and according to the former club officer, John was known as a “fearless and fierce” hurler. John also played for Limerick. “I think he went through his entire career without getting a yellow card,” the man said.

It is true that GAA runs through the Flanagan’s blood as two of Seamus’ sisters were on the Limerick inter-county football panel.

It’s all heating up, leading up to the Munster final between Limerick and Clare but which Flanagan will take home the title, Seamus or Paul? All will be revealed this Sunday.

Throw-in for the match is at 1.45pm.
