AFTER a four-year hiatus, Kilfinane is set to come alive once again as the much-anticipated Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh returns.
This year's event, scheduled for this June bank holiday weekend, promises a jam-packed programme filled with music, song, and dance.

Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh has long been a popular festival, attracting both locals and visitors from all over the county, and this year's festivities will kick off this Thursday, at Kellehers pub, with a singing session led by the talented Nell Ní Chróinín.

This event sets the tone for the weekend, giving attendees a taste of the rich musical tradition that will be showcased throughout the festival.

On Friday, the ever-popular Hup na Houra returns to The Old Chapel Rooms, where renowned musicians Derek Hickey, Liam Flanagan, Caoimhín O Fearghail, and singer Deirdre Scanlan will take the stage for an evening of lively entertainment.

Saturday marks the beginning of the Fleadh competitions, with over 600 participants from all around the county expected to travel to Kilfinane to compete in various categories, including music, song, dance, and the highly anticipated Ceilí Bands competitions.

In addition to the competitions, visitors can also enjoy the free session trail taking place throughout the weekend, giving guests an opportunity to discover new talent within intimate settings. The festival extends beyond music, incorporating a wide range of family-friendly events.

Festivities will take place across the town, featuring family fun activities, street entertainment, a magic show, BBQ, and an expo. The gig rig, a popular feature of the Fleadh, will also host free events throughout the weekend.

Headline acts such as North Cregg, Donie Nolan, and Fuinneamh, will bring the village to life, as well as various Comhaltas musicians from around the county.

A spokesperson for the event said: ”The Fleadh is much more than a music festival, it's a celebration of Irish culture and heritage that brings people together from all over the county.

"With a packed schedule of events, there is something for everyone to enjoy.”

Booking in advance is recommended to attend any of the events scheduled for June 1-5. To secure a spot, reservations can be made by emailing ballyhouracce@gmail.com.
