Memorial cycle marks Limerick girl Ciara’s 10th anniversary

Memorial cycle marks Limerick girl Ciara’s 10th anniversary

Ciara McCarthy passed away in 2013 at the age of seven

THE ANNUAL charity cycle in Boher in memory of Limerick girl Ciara McCarthy will be especially poignant this year as it marks the 10th anniversary of her sad passing.

Ciara, from Ballysimon, died in 2013 after a long illness bravely borne. Ciara was only seven-years-old.

A cycle, now in its ninth year, was started in Boher to honour Ciara’s memory and raise money for Cliona’s Foundation which helped the McCarthy family.

Tens of thousands of euros have been donated over the years in the name of Ciara, beloved daughter of James and Aoife and brother of Thomas.

The 2023 cycles takes off from Boher Community Centre on Friday, June 2 at 7.15pm with registration from 6.15pm. A spokesperson for Boher Community Development Association said they look forward to welcoming one and all again for “a fantastic evening of catching up and, of course, doing a small bit of cycling as well”. All ages and levels of fitness will be catered for.

“It is a 40km route with options for a shorter cycle, if you wish, along the usual route,” they said.

Organisers aim to add to the total already raised for Cliona’s Foundation over the last nine years and continue to help the Limerick-based charity support the families of children with a life-limiting condition.

Participants can donate on the night or via Idonate.

Refreshments will be served in the community centre after the cycle.
