The men were taken to Henry Street garda station following their arrest
TWO men have been arrested and charged in relation to the theft of a collection box from a church in Limerick city.
The suspects were arrested shortly after gardai were alerted by a member of the public who saw them acting suspiciously.
"On Saturday, May 6 at 3.40pm, a person rang gardai in Henry Street to report that two males were acting suspiciously on Clare Street near St. Patrick’s Church. The witness could see that they were carrying what looked like a collection box," explained divisional crime prevention officer, Sergeant Ber Leetch.
"The description was given out to gardai and within minutes, two males who answered the description of the witness were arrested. They were found in possession of the collection box and coins," she added.
Both men were brought to Henry Street where they were questioned and subsequently charged. They are now before the courts.
"Here, an observant person saw something suspicious but took the next step and acted on it. They rang gardai, if you see something say something and contact your local garda station," advised Sgt Leetch.
