In Pictures: Enterprising Limerick students are feted for exam success and told to follow their passion

FOR THE FIRST time in four years the best young business brains in the Mid-West have been honoured at an in-person ceremony.

Students who obtained a distinction (90-100%) in Junior Cycle Business Studies 2022 were presented with certificates of achievement from the Kemmy Business School (KBS), University of Limerick at an awards night in the University Concert Hall.

The teenagers were joined by parents, families, guardians, business studies teachers and school principals at the event held in association with the Business Studies Teachers’ Association of Ireland.

Professor Philip O’Regan, former dean, KBS, said they are delighted to recognise this “fantastic achievement of our young awardees – the region’s top Business Studies students in Junior Cycle 2022”.

“I congratulate all on their wonderful achievement and would also like to pay tribute to the commitment and dedication of their teachers in helping the students achieve such excellence,” said Prof O’Regan.

This year’s guest speaker was Catriona O’Halloran, graduate of the BA International Studies, who began by congratulating each award recipient and noted that “the last few years with the pandemic have not been easy”.

“You not only overcame any challenges thrown your way, you triumphed and excelled and sit here tonight having achieved the top grades in Business Studies.

“It is a fantastic achievement that you should be very proud of,” said Ms O’Halloran, who offered the following advice, “In the next few years you are going to experience a lot of changes, you are going to have some big decisions to make but embrace the change and find ways to enjoy it”.

She said: “Follow what you are passionate about, do it with good intentions and you will always find the right path.”

Chloe Keane, chairperson, Limerick/Clare branch of the BSTAI, thanked the Kemmy Business School for organising the event and thanked the teachers who supported their students behind the scenes, and in front of the class, which led in part to their achievement.

This event reinforces the important relationship between KBS and the region’s second-level students, schools and business studies teachers. Recent years has seen a significant increase in demand for the school’s undergraduate programmes.
