MORE THAN €5,000 has been raised for a beloved Limerick charity after an Easter Monday walk.
Some 40 regulars of Fitzgerald's Pub in Thomondgate on the city's northside gathered for the event, which is marking its 10th anniversary.
They were all asked to gather sponsorship for the afternoon walk, with every cent raised going to Milford Hospice in Castletroy, which provides palliative care and services to older people.
Pub proprietor Billy Fitzgerald said: "We had a great day. The weather played ball. We had a bit of a shower at the start, but it only lasted five minutes. We got lucky."
Those taking part set off from the pub in Thomondgate's High Road.
From there, they walked to Barrington's Pier at Condell Road before tying a yellow ribbon to remember a loved one around a tree which has been specially planted for the annual walk.
Prayers were said during a moment of reflection at Barrington's Pier.
Asked why Milford Hospice was chosen to be the benefitting charity, Billy said: "There isn't a person or family who have not been impacted by cancer. Milford are fantastic in what they do. The minute you put a card in front of someone and Milford is on it, their hand goes into their pocket straight away to donate."
