BREAKING: Man, 50s, assaulted on St Patrick's Day in Limerick has passed away

A MAN, aged in his 50s, who suffered serious head injuries in an assault in Limerick city on St Patrick’s Day has passed away.

He has been named as Liam Higgins.

A garda spokesperson, in a statement issued this Thursday morning, say they continue to investigate a serious assault that occurred on Athlunkard Street on Tuesday, March 17.

“The male, aged in his 50s, who was injured during the incident was pronounced deceased yesterday evening, Wednesday, March 25 at University Hospital Limerick.

“The office of the coroner, and the state pathologist have been notified,” said a garda spokesperson.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out at University Hospital Limerick later this Thursday.

“Three adult males have been charged in relation to this investigation and have previously appeared before Limerick District Court. Investigations are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson.
