GARDAI have warned the public not to pass their details to strangers after someone was approached by a person impersonating a journalist.

Gardai were informed that a male was standing outside a business premises having a cigarette when another male approached and introduced himself as a journalist.

The man then asked if he could take a photo of the male who agreed and the alleged reporter took the photo and left.

The man was left wondering afterwards why his photograph was taken. Sergeant Ber Leetch, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station said she had concerns regarding identity theft.

"That alleged journalist did not show any identification, he could have been anybody.

"He could have asked the male for his name and address and date of birth.

"Some people will pass over details without thinking of their safety, do not give any personal details to anybody and remember, a scam can happen in person too not just online or over the phone."
