A MAN has been airlifted to University Hospital Limerick after falling from a cliff in Ballybunion.

Volunteer organisation Ballybunion Rescue said they received a call-out at 4.43pm on Saturday.

"Our pagers were activated for a member of the public who had fallen from the cliffs on the men’s beach side of the Castle Green. Medical treatment was provided by the team, which included a paramedic and emergency medical technicians.

"The casualty was prepared for transport ready for Rescue 115 who had landed on the beach and airlifted him to University Limerick Hospital," said a post on the Facebook page of Ballybunion Rescue who wished the casualty a speedy recovery.

One local, who came upon the scene, told Limerick Live that the man aged in his 50s "fell half way down the cliff".

"He was very dazed but started to come around. He must have got some fright. Thankfully there was a couple walking near where he fell at the time and raised the alarm.

"He hit three different places on the way down. All his limbs were moving so hopefully he is OK.

"Ballybunion Rescue and the Coast Guard were amazing," they said.

Gardai from Listowel and the Ballybunion Unit of the Irish Coast Guard also assisted in the emergency response.
