UHL recorded the highest number of patients on trolleys in the country
THREE days after Taoiseach Leo Varadkar’s visit to University Hospital Limerick (UHL), 109 people have been recorded on trolleys in the hospital according to figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), the highest figure recorded this year.
Out of the 109 patients waiting for a bed, 49 are in the Emergency Department, while a further 60 are waiting in other wards.
Last Friday, the INMO recorded 85 people on trolleys, the day the Taoiseach visited the hospital.
The current number of patients on trolleys in UHL is creeping up on the record number of 126, recorded on April 21, 2022
The figures from UHL this Monday are the largest amount of patients on trolleys recorded in the country, with over 16% of trolleys coming from UHL (total of 655).
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar toured UHL on Friday, whilst also meeting with members of the Mid-West Hospital Campaign, who have been consistently calling for better conditions at UHL.
During his visit, An Taoiseach declared that patients attending UHL are not getting the kind of care they “deserve and are entitled to”.
