PRODUCTION company Druid, an award-winning Irish theatre company, is visiting Limerick’s Lime Tree Theatre for two nights with their latest production called The Last Return.

Described as a ‘thrilling comedy’, the play has already been both nationally and internationally recognised for its playwright Sonya Kelly, as well as the plot and talented cast.

The Last Return will be performed on Valentine’s Day, February 14 and Wednesday, February 15 for a duration of 90 minutes on each night.

Actor and member of The Last Return cast, Rebecca O’Mara has unique historical ties with Limerick: “The O’Maras are from Limerick - my great granduncle was an international opera singer, Joseph O’Mara, who used to give free live performances from his house in Limerick in between tours.

“Also, my other great granduncle, Stephen O’Mara, was mayor of Limerick during the War of Independence - he was a member of the first Dáil Eireann and UK House of Commons and he also made St. Patrick's Day a national holiday for us all.

“I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with Limerick and my family’s history when I come to visit on tour!” Rebecca added.

Speaking about what Limerick audiences can expect from the show, Rebecca, who plays ‘Umbrella Woman’ in the production, said: “I’m actually really excited about playing in Limerick because I’ve never played in Limerick before!

“I’ve never done a proper tour in my own country so I am really excited to perform in Ireland, particularly in Limerick’s Lime Tree theatre, because I’ve heard great things about it - I’m really glad that Limerick audiences are going to get the chance to see it.

“It’s an absurdist black comedy and the audiences have reacted so well so far - people were laughing so much I thought they were going to be sick!” added Rebecca.

Directed by Sara Joyce, the play went international when it was performed in Edinburgh and won at week one in the Scotsman Fringe First Award 2022, which celebrates the best new writing on stage.
