Coolmine Lodge is run by Coolmine Therapeutic Community
ALCOHOL and cocaine account for almost 60% of the substances prompting treatment by the Coolmine Therapeutic Community.
It's in first quarter report for 2025 for Limerick, the drug and alcohol treatment centre outlines how alcohol is the primary substance, accounting for 32% of all presentations.
Cocaine-related cases followed closely at 27%, while cannabis presentations remained steady at 16%. Heroin-related presentations have declined.
The centre reports a drop in missed appointments, with no-shows falling from 71 in the first quarter of 2024 to just 23 in the same period this year. Twelve families were supported during the first quarter and employment remains a challenge in the region, with only 10 clients in employment compared to 82 unemployed.

David McPhillips, Mid-West service manager at Coolmine, said: “These figures show real progress - not only in engagement but also in outcomes. We’re seeing more women seeking help, fewer people are missing appointments, and more are completing treatment.”
The report confirms a total of 114 individuals accessed support through Coolmine’s services in the first quarter of 2025 and that female engagement continues to dominate the treatment landscape in the Mid-West region.
