Relief for thousands of Limerick households as boil water notice is lifted by Uisce Éireann

A BOIL water notice impacting thousands of householders in Limerick city and south east Clare has been lifted, Uisce Éireann has confirmed.

The boil water notice, for more than a dozen areas in Limerick city and its environs, was issued late on Thursday after an issue was identified at the Newcastle reservoir.

The notice applied to consumers supplied in Limerick city, Corbally, Mill Road, Moyross, Long Pavement, Westbury, Parteen, Larkins Cross, Ardnacrusha, Shannon Banks, Knocklisheen and Clonlara.

In an update, issued this Friday evening, the State utility confirmed the notice has been lifted with immediate effect and that householders are safe to consume water from the public supply.

"Drinking water experts from Uisce Éireann worked to lift the notice as quickly and as safely as possible. Following satisfactory water sampling results, the notice has now been lifted," said a spokesperson who added that the decision was made following consultation with the HSE.

Eoin O'Connell, Uisce Éireann’s Operations Manager, acknowledged the impact of the boil water notices on customers impacted and he has thanked them for their patience - particularly given a technical glitch which caused confusion regarding the areas which were impacted by the notice.

“Uisce Éireann’s primary focus remains the protection of public health and we worked with our stakeholders to lift the notice as quickly as possible. We regret any inconvenience caused and appreciate the community’s patience and support while we worked to lift this notice. We would also like to thank the local elected representatives and the media for their assistance in sharing the information during the period of this boil water notice,” said Mr O'Connell.
