ALERT: Thousands affected by boil water notice issued for in and around Limerick city

A BOIL water notice has been issued for 11 places, likely affecting thousands of consumers in and around Limerick city and border areas.

Uisce Éireann has issued a boil water notice for customers supplied by parts of the Limerick City and Environs Public Water Supply.  

This notice applies to consumers supplied in the following areas: Corbally, Mill Road, Moyross, Long Pavement, Westbury, Parteen, Larkins Cross, Ardnacrusha, Shannon Banks, Knocklisheen, Clonlara.

This notice is being issued to protect the health of customers due to possible inadequate disinfection at the plant and leaving the Newcastle reservoir. 

All households and businesses affected by this notice must boil their water before consuming, brushing teeth, or making ice.

Drinking water experts from Uisce Éireann are in consultation with the HSE.

Eoin O’Connell, Uisce Éireann, regrets the inconvenience to impacted customers. He said: “Public health is Uisce Éireann number one priority and we would like to assure customers that the notice has been put in place to protect public health. 

“We acknowledge the inconvenience caused to homes and businesses and would like to assure customers that we are working to resolve the issue and lift the notice as quickly and as safely possible.”

Customers can check if their property is included by visiting the Water Quality section and entering the property’s Eircode or by calling the Uisce Éireann’s customer care helpline, open 24/7, on 1800 278 278.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communication.

Water must be boiled for: drinking, preparation of salads and similar foods, brushing of teeth, making of ice and preparing infant formula.

Where a boil water notice is in place, you can prepare infant formula from tap water that has been boiled once (rolling boil for 1 minute) and cooled beforehand. Bottled water can also be used to make up infant formula.
