THE MOST high-profile casualty of the General Election in Limerick City seems to be that of Green Party’s Brian Leddin.
He has been eliminated out of the race for a seat in Limerick City this Sunday, just before 10:30am.
As the only person to lose a seat among all seven TDs in Limerick City and County, Mr Leddin is keeping with the national trend of Greens having their TD title stripped from them during this General Election.
With the hopes of being elected slipping through his fingers, it was apparent from early doors that the engineer was going to be out of the running for the final seat in the City constituency.
He was knocked out of the race on count seven and with poll topper Willie O’Dea only being elected on count six, no candidate reached the quota until approximately 11:30pm Saturday evening.

A former councillor, Mr Leddin failed to be elected in the Mayoral Election earlier this year.
“I think I had an excellent campaign, it’s actually the best campaign I’ve been involved with. We were swimming against the tide, we knew that,” he said of the General Election.
“I got into politics unexpectedly and I’m really proud to have had that opportunity. I will continue in one way or another and it is a long long struggle, but we will keep going.
“There will be good days and bad days, I knew that from the outset, but we will have better times again.”
In 2020, Mr Leddin was elected in the ninth count to the final seat, beating Independent candidate Frankie Daly by a few hundred votes, as the Green Party made their presence known in that General Election, winning a total of 12 seats in the Dáil.
Reflecting on his time as a TD and his last four years in office, Mr Leddin concluded by saying: “I’m very proud of the impact that I’ve had as a TD. I know that I’ve left my mark on what’s happening in Limerick and the Mid-West.”
