LIMERICK senior footballers travel to Markievicz Park this Sunday for a crucial Allianz Football League Division 3 fixture, boosted by their dramatic late win over Wexford last weekend.
Peter Nash's injury-time goal ensured Limerick would pick up their first win of their 2026 league campaign at Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale on Sunday last in what was a repeat of last year's Tailteann Cup quarter-final.
"That was a nail-biter," was manager Jimmy Lee's reaction in the aftermath of last weekend's tie with the Leinster side.
"Wexford were well up for it today but that panel of ours dug deep because we've had injury after injury, but that was testament to them because they dug deep and they put their bodies on the line today so hats off to them.
"There's massive resilience there in that group, between players and management. They will keep coming back, they will take the knocks and take the bruises and you have to admire that in them and they're building on that as a group which is very important.
"It's an extremely good result from our point of view because we have a lot of injuries and we have a lot of people to come back, so looking at it like that, it's an extremely good result.
"The enormity of the result is huge as well because if you go three games without a win you are under pressure but that doesn't mean that the pressure if off by any means.
"We go up to Sligo next week and it's about building on this because this division is a tight division. There are fine lines between everyone but we're up and running which is the positive thing so lets see where the journey takes us."
Limerick take on a Sligo side who who sit sixth in the Division 3 table after three games. The Yeats County have won one of their opening three league outings.
Joint-managers Eamon O'Hara and Dessie Sloyan will be hoping their side can pick up a vital win.
Jimmy Lee and his Limerick management team have been experimental in the opening three rounds of this year's league, fielding a mixture of youth and experience, with the Shannonsiders performing admirably against Laois, Down and most recently Wexford, who are among the favourites to win promotion from the division.
Following their trip to Sligo, Limerick continue their programme of Allianz Football League Division 3 fixtures on Saturday, February 28 with a home game against Clare.
