The 2025 Division 4 Allianz League champions were yet to register a win in this year's campaign before Sunday, with their opening two fixtures being a draw to Laois and a narrow loss to Down.

Limerick knew how important achieving a win was on Sunday, as sharp-shooter James Naughton explained immediately after the tie.

"We spoke before the game about it being a crucial two points, we haven't started the best, we got out of Laois with a point, the Down game didn't go our way so we knew coming into today that this was massive.

"It was huge in terms of getting us off to a good start and to have us looking up the league table, it gives us a good platform to build on now," the St Senan's native said.

Naughton admitted that there was a hint on pressure on the Shannonsiders heading into Sunday's clash at Mick Neville Park.

"There was a small bit of pressure there. We knew beforehand that a win was crucial and it was what we needed. A draw wouldn't have been enough for us today and we pushed hard for a win, in the end we did that.

"It's absolutely brilliant to get a win. It just gives you that opportunity to build in the coming games and as I said, we're looking up the table now and that's always a good way to be," he said.

Naughton conceded Limerick's play was 'scrapy at times' but insists there is belief and ambition aplenty within the group and management team.

"It as scrappy at times, there were some poor turnovers that we won't be happy with but none of us lost belief. We knew we needed the win, we stuck at it and we're just very happy with the result.

"We have an ambitious group and the goal is to always push on and the goal for this campaign is to get promoted, to get back to Croke Park and today's result gives us a small chance to do that," he said.
