LIMERICK club Camogue Rovers are hosting a special centenary banquet this Friday evening, February 13, at the Fitzgerald's Woodlands House Hotel in Adare.

The Camogue Rovers GAA Club was founded at the cross of Clorane in the summer of 1925, with William Sheehan, Jack Quaid, Tim Morey and Dinny Mulcahy serving as the club's first officers.

The name Camogue Rovers was selected as the majority of their first junior hurling team were from the banks of the Camogue river. In 1926 Camogue won the inaugural South Limerick hurling championship beating Hospital 2-01 to 1-03. Three years later, in 1929, the club again contested the final, this time losing out narrowly to Hospital 2-04 to 2-02.

In June of that year the Rovers acquired their own field through the land commission for £450 pounds, money was raised by house-to-house collections.

Four years ago, in 2022, the club won another South title beating Bruree 2-09 to 2-07, where Pat Murnane presented the cup to his son Ger. Camogue lost out in the county semi-final to GB 2-08 to 0-10. Again in 2003, Camogue won the south final in hurling beating Blackrock 2-10 to 1-04.

Camogue lost out to Feenagh in the county final same year. In  2022 Camogue again won South and County League titles within four days of each other but lost out to Mungret in semi-final.
