THE LIMERICK senior footballers begin their Allianz National Football League Division Three campaign against Laois on Saturday evening.
After winning the Division Four league title in 2025 and suffering relegation from Division 3 in 2024, Jimmy Lee's side will be keen to cement their place in Division Three this year.
It was a mixed McGrath Cup campaign for the Limerick senior footballers who recorded a victory over Cork and suffered a defeat to Tipperary.
“We're happy with some of the lads that came back (against Cork) as well, getting game time into them was important so there's been a lot of positives, but there's a lot still to work on that we need to be conscious of as well, generally it was quite good but as I said, there are still things to work on,” said Limerick senior football manager Jimmy Lee.
Lee said his side are now focussed on their Division Three clash with Laois.
“At the moment, Laois is our next outing, we're going to look and assess the situation and we'll see where we're at but Laois is our next outing as far as we're concerned,” added Lee.
Turnover has been a big issue in the Limerick senior football squad in the past but this year the turnover is very little and that shows signs of progression according to team captain Cillian Fahy.
“There is a good few fresh faces, there is a couple up from the U20's and there ia a few brought in from the club season. It's great to have those lads involved and it's a massive sign of progress that there is a lot of fella's that want to be involved this year.
“The turnover rate over the last couple of years was quite high and to keep the turnover rate relatively low this year and to add fresh faces is great for the competiveness of the panel and shows that Limerick football is in a good place," added Cillian Fahy.
Limerick's first aim will be to retain their Division 3 status in 2026 says Fahy.
“It's a very strong Division 3, we haven't sat down and talked about our goals for the season. That's the obvious goal to consolidate our Division 3 status, and accumualate as many points as possible in our first five games. We'd hoping that after that we are in a good enough place but the main goal is definitely to stay up,” said Fahy.
Limerick senior football manager Jimmy Lee has named a 37-man panel ahead of the Allianz League.
Goalkeeper Josh Ryan remains a long injury absentee after suffering an ACL injury while in action for his club. Jeffrey Alfred, Jamie Dolan and Ronan McElligott will now battle it out for the number one jersey.
Darragh O'Hagan, Darragh Murray, Tadgh O'Siochru and Darragh O'Siochru are all currently sidelined through injury. Galway native Brendan Carr and Mayo native Jack Mahon have earned an inter-county call up's from Jimmy Lee.
Mahon has transfered from his home club Charlestown in Mayo to Mungret St Paul's. Jamie Dolan, Eliah O'Riordan, Sam Quigley, Sean Kilbridge, Oisin Moss, Lee Woulfe and Shane Cross have been drafted into the Limerick senior football panel.
