THERE is a West Limerick derby in store this afternoon in the Griffins Coaches Limerick Intermediate Football Championship final. St Senan's meet Askeaton-Ballysteen-Kilcornan Desmonds in the Limerick IFC final this afternoon at 1pm in Sean Finn Park, Rathkeale.
Last Tuesday evening, Askeaton-Ballsyteen-Kilcornan Desmonds edged past Galbally 1-16 to 0-18 in the Limerick IFC semi-final. A free late on from Joey Rushe sealed ABK Desmonds place into the Limerick IFC final. After Ballysteen were relegated from senior in 2024, Askeaton, Ballysteen and Kilcornan joined up together as a club.
St Senan's just did enough to get past Cappagh winning out 0-16 to 0-14 last weekend in the other Limerick IFC semi-final. Limerick senior footballer James Naughton was on target with 0-12 in St Senan's county semi-final victory.
Naughton will come up against his inter-county teammate Danny Neville who will be in action for ABK Desmonds. Limerick senior footballers Cormac Woulfe and David O'Shaughnessy are both sidelined through injury. Woulfe is part of the St Senan's side, while O'Shaughnessy plays for ABK Desmonds.
St Senan's last won the Intermediate Football Championship in 2017, while Ballysteen tasted Intermediate Football Championship success in 2008.
The winner of Sunday's clash will be promoted to senior football for the 2026 season. Meanwhile, the Limerick intermediate champions will face Thurles Sarsfields of Tipperary or Aghabullogue of Cork in the Munster IFC semi-final on Sunday November 23 in a Tipperary or Cork venue.
