THERE was plenty of links to Limerick GAA in last week's Galway Senior Football Championship final. Maigh Cuilinn defeated Salthill Knocknacarra 1-17 to 1-15 in the Galway Senior Football Championship final on last Saturday evening under lights in Pearse Stadium.
Former Limerick senior hurling psychologist Caroline Currid played a key role in the Maigh Cuilinn backroom team. Maigh Cuilinn captain David Wynne paid tribute to Currid in his winning speech.
Meanwhile, former Limerick footballer Donal O'Sullivan lined out in goals for Salthill Knocknacarra. O'Sullivan landed a 0-1 in his side's two point defeat to Maigh Cuilinn.
The former Limerick shotstopper transferred from Monaleen to the Galway club last year due to work commitments in the University Hospital in Galway.
O'Sullivan lined out for the Limerick senior footballers between 2013 and 2023. During that time, the goalkeeper was part of promotions from Division 4 to Division 2 in two seasons and won a McGrath cup with the Shannonsiders.
Caroline Currid has played a pivotal role in Limerick hurling’s remarkable achievements. The sports psychologist worked with the Shannonsiders in 2018 when Limerick ended their 45 year wait for the Liam McCarthy Cup. In 2019 she wasn't involved with John Kiely's set-up.

Currid returned to the Limerick senior hurling setup from 2020 to 2023, a period during which the team won four All-Ireland titles and four Munster championships. In 2023, the Sligo native stepped away from the Limerick hurling set-up.
Currid has won All-Ireland titles with the Dublin senior footballers, Tyrone senior footballers and the Tipperary senior hurlers. The current Limerick senior hurling team are yet to win an All-Ireland without sports psychologist Caroline Currid being involved in the backroom team.
The former Sligo ladies footballer spent a year in a consultancy role with Johan van Graan’s Munster during the 2021/22 season.
