THIS Saturday sees the Limerick senior footballers head to Croke Park for the Division 4 Allianz Football League final. Limerick face Wexford in the Division 4 decider on Saturday evening in Croke Park at 5pm.
Limerick senior footballer Peter Nash said it is a privilege to be competing for silverware in Croke Park this weekend.
“It's playing to win all the time and it is having the respect for the quality that Wexford bring to the table. We played them already, they were really dominant around the middle of the park. They gave us a barometer to base ourselves off going forward in league games.
“It is of course a shootout between the two of us in for silverware in Croke Park. That is a privilege, that's a real privilege,” said Peter Nash.
“I only ever got the privilege of being there once before. It's something that you have to savour but you have to prepare for it right. It's another pitch at the end of the day but there is something really special about it.”
Limerick are bidding to win the Division 4 league title for the first time since 2013. The Shannonsiders played in Croke Park when they were narrowly defeated to Louth in the Division 3 league final in 2022.
Nash feels the enjoyment factor is back in Limerick football.
“It feels like you're just building and improving in small little percentages every week. And that's really satisfying. Even on the days when it hasn't been going well, you have something that you can always revert back to and try just be better in each individual play. It's really positive and enjoyable to be part of,” added Nash.
The Limerick attacker was introduced as a first half substitute in Limerick's 4-24 to 1-17 victory over Waterford last Sunday in Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale.
The Kildimo-Pallaskenry clubman was on target with two points in Limerick's victory which sealed their place into Division 3 for the 2026 season. After two games, Limerick were on one point after a draw with Longford and loss to Wexford.
Jimmy Lee's side went on to win four games and earn a draw with Wicklow to make the jump straight back up to Division 3.
“I can't even remember the last time I saw 4-24 on a football scoreline. It's just tribute to not only the athleticism and quality that is around the pitch. It's a huge tribute to the plan and the ways things are being coached. It's a combination of everything.”
Depth is something which has driven on the players this year, according to Nash.
“You still have a responsibility to be the best possible teammate you possibly can regardless whether you are number one or number 36. And if you are not in the jersey making it as difficult as you possibly can for the person who is to make them better on a nightly basis. That can never be questioned by anyone.”
