THE LIMERICK senior footballers have put themselves back in the promotion hunt in Division Four of the Allianz Football League.
Over the last three weekends Jimmy Lee's side have registered victories against London, Carlow and most recently Tipperary.
Limerick currently sit in second place in Division 4 on seven points. Limerick manager Jimmy Lee feels his team's performances are heading in the right direction.
Lee's side have a break this week in the National Football League. The Division 4 action this weekend will see table toppers Wexford face Wicklow in a crucial promotion battle. Wexford, Wicklow and Limerick are all currently battling it out for a place in Division Three for 2026.
“Destiny is in our own hands and it always was. There's no point at looking at tables, we win two more that's it. We'll take it a game at a time, there's no point at looking too far down the road,” said Limerick senior football manager Jimmy Lee after his side's victory over Tipperary last weekend. The Shannonsiders recorded a 2-21 to 3-8 victory over Tipp last weekend in round five of the National Football League.
“We had a few knocks and bruises coming into the game. We had to change the panel and do a bit of work in the background. In fairness, there's depth in the panel. It just proved it with the lads that went in.”
Lee feels Limerick's scoring conversion was a big positive coming away from their win.
“In fairness to the lads coaching they have done a massive job at the end of the day they are putting in the work on the field with the boys. The boys are buying into it and that's the result of it. I couldn't fault anyone in the entire set up.”
Limerick have responded excellently after failing to win their opening two games against Longford and Wexford.
“They are showing a good bit of resolve, they know what they are about. They're accountable to themselves, they are constantly improving. The buzz coming off the stand on (Saturday night) and they are representing the people that are in the stand week in, week out. They are working from the energy coming off that as well.”
Lee called on Danny Neville, Tommie Childs and Peter Nash from the bench in Saturday's game. Andrew Meade, Barry Coleman and team captain Cillian Fahy all missed the win over Tipperary through injury. Limerick attacker James Naughton continued his impressive form scoring 0-7.
Lee's side face Wicklow and Waterford in their final two games in Division Four of the National Football League. Limerick travel to Aughrim to take on Wicklow in round six of the Allianz Football League on Sunday March 16 at 2pm.
