LIMERICK senior football manager Jimmy Lee was disappointed that his side didn't secure two points against Longford in the opening round of the Allianz National Football League.
Lee's charges played out a 2-12 to 1-15 draw with Longford on Sunday afternoon at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park in Division Four of the league.
On 14 minutes, the Shannonsiders trailed 2-2 to 0-1. Limerick then produced a strong second half performance where Iain Corbett put them 2-10 to 1-15 on 73 minutes. Longford's Matthew Carey nailed a two pointer in the final play of the game as both sides had to settle for the draw.
"We didn't start well but when we got our composure and started building on it we did start to perform. We were happy with anything after that. We have a bit to work on but at the same time happy enough with some of the performance. The only thing is, we didn't show composure in the first 20 minutes. We are adapting to the new rules well and we're in a good place with them." said Lee.
Limerick are sixteen games without a win in the Allianz Football League. The Newcastle man feels his side are moving in an upward trajectory.
"Ideally, we would have gotten the result there if we managed the game a bit better. There's stuff, we have got to learn from. We brought lads off bench who were making their first appearance and we have to factor all that in. Generally, happy enough with the performance more than the result"
Limerick are back in action this Sunday at 2pm in round two of the Allianz National Football League against Wexford in Mick Neville Park.
"13 points will win that Division. The last two champions of Division Four have won with it 13 points. We'll go to Wexford and see where it takes us."
Cormac Woulfe are Danny Neville are some of the players that could come back into contention this weekend.
