UNIVERSITY of Limerick get their Sigerson Cup third level football campiagn underway this week.
The Castletroy-based college take on ATU Galway at Liam Mellows GAA club in Galway at 7pm on this Wednesday evening.
The winners of that Higher Education senior football championship clash will face ATU Sligo or Ulster University in the winners section of the competition.
There are two players from Limerick involved. Darragh O'Hagan of Mungret St Paul's is included in the UL Sigerson Cup squad. St Senan's Cormac Woulfe who had a breakthrough season with Limerick, is also part of the UL squad.
There is plenty of inter-county inter-county experience in the UL squad which includes Darragh Cashman (Cork), Frank Irwin (Mayo), Jack McCabe (Galway) and the Clare duo of Brian McNamara and Daniel Walsh.
TUS Midwest and Mary Immaculate College compete in the Trench Cup.
Meanwhile, three Limerick Colleges get their Fitzgibbon Cup campaigns underway on Wednesday week, January 15.
In group one, holders Mary Immaculate College make the trip to ATU Galway at 7pm on January 15. League champions UL host SETU Waterford at the same time in the other game in group one.
On Thursday, January 16, TUS Midwest face DCU at 7pm in their Fitzgibbon Cup opener at the TUS GAA Grounds.
