2024 was a mixed year for the Limerick senior footballers. Jimmy Lee replaced Mark Fitzgerald as Limerick senior football manager.

Lee was in charge of the successful Newcastle West senior football team. The Treaty county competed in Division three of the National football league.

Limerick started their league campaign off with a defeat to Antrim in Rathkeale. Then Down comfortably defeated Limerick in round two in Newry. Sligo, Clare and Westmeath all did enough to defeat Jimmy Lee's side in the next three rounds of the league.

In their final two games, Wicklow and Offaly narrowly defeated Limerick by one point to confirm Limerick's relegation into Division four of the National football league for the 2025 season. Those two performances gave Limerick huge confidence heading into championship.

Lee made the decision to put outfielder Josh Ryan between the sticks during the national league. Ryan was unable to play outfield, the Oola man was recovering from a broken tibia.

Cork had too much for Limerick in the opening round of the Munster SFC. That meant Limerick turned their attention to the Tailteann Cup and after a heavy defeat to Down in round one. They recorded victories over London, Offaly and Tipperary.

Limerick advanced to the quarter-final of the Tailteann Cup where Sligo had too much for them in the end.

Youngsters like Barry Coleman and Emmett Rigter stepped up this year. Rigter was awarded with a place on the Tailteann Cup team of the year.

After county finals defeats in 2021, 2022 and 2023 Adare won the Limerick senior football championship for the first time in three years. Rathkeale have made their return to senior football after winning the intermediate championship. Cappagh were crowned junior football champions this year.
