Limerick GAA confirm inter-county team expenditure surpassed €2millon for the first time

LIMERICK GAA officials have revealed that preparing inter-county teams for the 2022 season surpassed €2million for the first time.

Ahead of next Monday's Limerick GAA Annual Convention, the financial report from treasurer Liam Bourke shows that the county spent almost €1million extra on team preparations in 2022.

Limerick report an expenditure of €2,297,886 for all their county teams - senior, U20 and minor hurling and football. There is no breakdown on an individual team basis provided in the end of year accounts.

Last year's figure was €1,321,258.

While John Kiely's senior hurlers lifted All-Ireland SHC honours once again, their were also extended seasons for Billy Lee's senior footballers and the U20 hurlers, who also reached an All-Ireland final.

As well as the progression of some inter-county teams, it is understood that the increased figure also includes a team holiday for the senior hurlers.

Despite the near 50% increase in team expenditure, Limerick report an overall profit €95,290 - down from last year's profit of €260,327.

Limerick's total income was €3,741,940 compared to €2,603,621 in 2021.

The total expenditure was €3,646,650, up from €2,343,294 last year.

The Limerick accounts show a return of €1,043,740 from gate receipts. The board's commercial income was €874,422, which includes sponsorship of county teams at €760,421.

Fund-raising activities returned €825,564.

Of the expenditure of €3,646,650, €2,297,886 was spent on team preparation.
