Due to Limerick's Tailteann Cup success this season, this year's senior, intermediate and junior club football winners will receive a bye to the Munster club championship semi-finals.

Jimmy Lee's Limerick senior football side booked their place in this year's decider following a second-half surge against Oisín McConville's Wicklow last month.

The Shannonsiders ran out 2-18 to 1-17 winners, setting up a final with Kildare, who were among the favourites to win the competition at the start of the summer.

Last week the Munster Council granted a request from the Limerick GAA County Board to afford their teams a pass from playing in the opening round of the club competitions by virtue of the inter-county team reaching the Tailteann Cup final on July 12.

The first round of the Limerick club football championship were due to get underway on Thursday, June 19 but were delayed due to Limerick's semi-final appearance at Croke Park against Wicklow.

Following on from Limerick's victory in the semi-final, a new start date of Thursday, July 19 was set.

The Limerick senior championship contains 12 teams split into two groups of six, the round-robin stages of Limerick’s senior football championship is now due to be completed by early October.

In both August and September, there are three-week breaks between rounds with some of those periods being taken up by club hurling championship action.
