ADARE CAMOGIE
Senior Plate County Final 2024: Adare v Killeedy. There was a fine turnout at Templeglantine GAA Field on Sunday last for the eagerly anticipated Camogie Senior Plate final clash between Adare and Killeedy.
These sides played a very exciting drawn game earlier on in the championship sharing the spoils on Adare 0-14, Killeedy 2-8. The expectation was for a very tight encounter between these sides and certainly the teams didn’t disappoint their avid supporters. The field was in superb condition and great credit to Templeglantine Camogie Club for the excellent preparation and presentation of the facilities for the 2024 Senior Plate final which was played in ideal conditions with a slight breeze from the village end.
Killeedy got off to a frantic start with the aid of the wind. Shauna Cunningham dominated and distributed great ball around the middle third of the field which led to Killeedy opening the game with a pair of well taken points. Adare’s defence and midfield settled after the initial 10-minute onslaught and were rewarded with two excellent points from Caoimhe Costelloe and Meadhbh Crowley. Adare put their stamp on the game over the next 7 or 8 minutes, playing quality ball into space with Emma Mullins getting out in front of her marker to set up scoring opportunities for her colleagues. Adare were denied by the woodwork twice before Poppy Giltenane reacted quickest, pulling on the ball first time into the net, after the Killeedy goalkeeper made a point blank save from Adare’s Carla Griffin.
Killeedy responded almost immediately to Adare’s goal with Idé Cunningham taking a great score from out on the left-hand side. Killeedy then had the upper hand for the remainder of the first half, closing out the half with another brace of points from the skilled free taking of Kate Liston who put over a fine free and a 45 late in the first half to tie up the game at 0-5 to 1-2 apiece.
Unlike in the previous game, Adare had the better of the exchanges in the opening 10 minutes of the second half with Meadhbh Crowley exerting control over the centre field area. Caoimhe Costelloe opened the scoring early in the second half for Adare with a perfectly pointed free. Although Adare were dominating the possession at this stage of the match, they were unable to reflect any superiority on the scoreboard. Killeedy’s big players started to play deeper out the field, defending every ball as though their lives depended on it. This made for a very exciting, physical and entertaining tussle between 2 well drilled sides. Overall, as belied by the scoreline it was both sets of defenders that gained the upper hand. Ultimately as the second half wore on Adare managed to go into a 2-point lead when Poppy Giltenane took her point at the end of a well worked move through the Adare lines. The lead was extended to 3 after a well taken free from Caoimhe Costelloe. Sophie O’Callaghan was playing a captain’s roll by mopping up a huge amount of ball at centre back as Killeedy started to go longer with their clearances.
A 3-point lead is the most dangerous of leads in camogie and certainly when Killeedy started putting the ball further into their full forward line, the Adare full backs proved once again that they had the temperament and experience to deal with the pressure. Firstly, Claire McNamara had to make a last gasp hook on the Killeedy forward as she about to pull the trigger before the Adare keeper, Evette Walshe, dived across her goal-line to deny Killeedy the goal chance that would have turned the game on its head. There were 8 minutes remaining in the game at this stage and this goal stopping save appeared to tilt the momentum in the Adare’s girl’s favour. Killeedy did manage to bring it back to 2 points through a 45 from Kate Liston. The final say was left to Caoimhe Costelloe when Louise Butler sent a long range free to Caoimhe who immediately turned to her right and put a great point over the black spot from 65m out on the left-hand side.
Both teams deserve great credit for serving up a great contest. The game may not have had the free-flowing scores of the earlier drawn game; however, it was a final where the stakes are higher. It was a truly tight match with the outcome in the mix right up to the final seconds of the game. To their credit Killeedy never dropped the intensity and certainly Shane Fitzgerald’s preparation with the team paid handsome dividends when his charges closed out the win, culminating in another great season for the Adare Senior Camogie Team
Adare’s Captain Sophie O’Callaghan accepted the Shield on the team’s behalf and in her speech paid a wonderful tribute to Adare's Club President and Founder Lizzie O’Dea RIP, who only passed away 3 weeks ago. Lizzie has been the inspiration behind so many girls getting involved with Adare Camogie Club over the past 30 years, and it is testament to her dedication and all the hard work at the grass roots level that has Adare adult camogie players are now competing in the serious stages of competitions over the past number of years.
For Adare this is the second year in a row winning the Senior Shield Trophy. Well Done and huge thanks to a fantastic bunch of players. To finish, will quote a few lines from Tony Dunne’s lovely tribute to Lizzie:
“Now up in heaven, she’s taken her stand
The angels equipped, with hurleys in hand
Farewell to our friend, our club’s guiding light,
Your spirit lives on in every match and fight”

Blackrock were the early pacesetters winning plenty possession and had two shots at goal cleared, their opening score from a well taken free from outfield from Adam Kelly, points from a free and play gave Belville Gaels the lead. Jack Roche with a Blackrock point from play had the sides level. A Bellville Gaels goal gave them the lead that they would not relinquish, a pointed free from Jack Roche reduced the deficit to the minimum with a pointed free and from play, both sides exchanged points, the Blackrock one from a Jack Roche free. Belville Gaels scored their second goal just before the interval to lead at the break by 2-3 to 0-5. The second half saw Belville Gaels on top adding six points, while Blackrock replied with three pointed frees from Jack Roche, with victory going to Belville Gaels by victory 2-9 to 0-8.
Team Management: Anton Roche, Ben Murphy and Roger Gleeson along with the players deserve great credit for their displays throughout the year to win their group undefeated in their seven outings and a Semi Final win to qualify for the County Final, where they met a much stronger Belville Gaels side (a combination of Feohanagh-Castlemahon and Feenagh- Kilmeedy) and gave of their best. CRECORA-MANISTER
U16 HURLING: South Liberities Crecora Manister 3-10 Croagh Kilfinny Rathkeale 2-10. Crecora-Manister-South Liberties took on Croagh Kilfinny Rathkeale in their U16 hurling final at Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale. CMSL had a lot of possession in the first few minutes but couldn't quite convert it on the scoreboard, meanwhile CKR slotted over a point just before CMSL managed to get their first goal followed by a point. CKR rattled off two pointed frees before CMSL hit back by raising another green flag. The next 10 minutes was very tight with both sides exchanging points before CKR got in for a goal. The first half finished with a scoreline of CMSL 3 6 CKR 2 4.
CMSL got the second half off to a good start with a point but this was to be their only score for 20 minutes, in the meantime CKR picked off 6 points, several of them from frees to draw level. CMSL stayed composed though, and finished the match the stronger with 3 unanswered points to leave the scoreline CMSL 3 10 CKR 2 10 on what was a great occasion for both clubs. The lads are a credit to themselves and their families and it was a pleasure to be part of it. It was great to see such support for the lads again and thanks to all for your support throughout the year.

FR CASEYS
County Semi-Final: Fr Caseys Senior Footballers are just sixty minutes away from their first County Senior Final since 2009 with Mungret standing in their way next Sunday in Newcastle West. After narrowly losing the opening round of the championship to county champions Newcastle West, the Abbeyfeale men have produced a flawless campaign. Including their quarter final victory over Galtee Gaels they have managed to win games with an average of ten points to spare, not only hitting high numbers on the scoreboard but also having a mean defence that hasn’t conceded more than ten points per game.
Managed by Eoin Joy with Shane Kelly as coach, this team will be more than aware that as we enter the business end of the year the hard battles are just about to begin. Mungret in their first year returned to Senior surprised many by topping a group which also included Adare. Having captured five adult titles last season this is a club on an upwards curve and are they are more than capable of causing another upset on Sunday.
Captained by Daniel Daly the Fr Caseys Seniors will enter the game as slight favourites but after many years of heartache in the knockout stages the team will be well reminded that talk is cheap and next Sunday must be the day to deliver. We wish everyone involved the very best of luck and hope a large crowd from Abbeyfeale will make the short trip to cheer on the team. Throw in time is 3.30pm with patriots advised to arrive early as a large crowd is expected. Tickets can be purchased in advance online from the Limerick GAA website for a discounted price or pay on the gate €15 for Adult, €10 for OAPs & Students with U16s free.

Galtee Gaels were going well in the second half until they conceded two quick goals, with time almost up Monagea were two points up Galtee Gaels scored a point to leave them one behind when they were awarded a penalty which Mary English converted to win on the score 3-12 to 5-4 for Monagea. MUNGRET ST PAULS
U14 CAMOGIE: Hard luck to our Shannon team who lost the Shield County Semi Final in Killeedy against the hosts on a wet and windy Saturday morning.
Our girls dominated much of the 1st half but things took a slight turn in the latter half of the second time, which Killeedy pulling away with the win.
The Shannon Team were led by Captain Orlaith Hinchey and the game was ably refereed by Seanie Gleeson.

INTERMEDIATE LADIES FOOTBALL: Mungret St Pauls 0-10 Knockainey 0-9. Huge congratulations to our Intermediate Ladies Football Team on winning the County Final on Sunday 6th October in Cappamore GAA pitch. It was an incredible game of football and a very close game from the very beginning. Knockainey got off to a great start, leading with a score of 0-4 to 0-1 in the first 15 minutes however it would be last time they would have the lead. The Mungret girls answered with 5 points in a row before Knockainey got two quick points before half time, meaning the teams were level with six points a piece.
The U8, U10 and U12 teams from Mungret and Knockainey put on a brilliant display of football at half time which was a very welcomed distraction from a nail biting first half.
Both teams had a number of opportunities to score in the first 15 minutes of the second half but neither full back line nor goalie was going to let any ball past them. However, Mungret’s Claire Coughlan changed the game with a wonderful point putting them back in the lead. Knockainey answered this point quickly but Mungret grabbed the lead with five minutes to go and stayed a point up for the remainder of the game. A single point was all that stood between these two teams and the sense of relief, joy and pride from the Mungret supporters and team could be felt by all when the final whistle blew. Mungret Ladies have been chasing this title for a long time and the wait is finally over.
There have been so many games over the last few years where the win has just slipped through their fingers by a point. This year however, was always going to be different. The commitment shown by this team who set themselves one goal this year, to be the County Champions, was uncontested. Nothing was going to stop this team from watching their fantastic leader and captain Áine Ryan from lifting the cup. Another highlight was Mungret’s Carol Bateman receiving the ‘Player of the Match’ award for her outstanding performance in goals. This group have been an absolute joy to watch all year and they are incredible role models for the club’s younger players. Wishing them all the best in the munster semi-final scheduled for Saturday, October 26.
A very special mention to the following people whose contribution, dedication, time and commitment in helping this team achieve their goal has been instrumental: John Horgan, Dave Foley, Peter O’Donovan, Liam O’Connell, Siobhán Horgan, Liz Morgan, Mary Murphy, Catherine Murphy, Dylan Kenny and Brian Moran.
2024 County Intermediate Champions: Carol Bateman, Áine Ryan (Captain), Sarah Horgan, Caoimhe O’Neill, Laura Dunne, Grainne McKenna, Claire Coughlan, Niamh O’Keeffe, Jillian Buckley, Jayne Casey, Clare O’Meara, Mairead Clancy, Cameryn Moloney, Katie O’Mahoney, Yvette Moynihan, Fiona Morrissey, Shannon Burke, Emma O’Rourke, Niamh Crowley, Aoife Morrissey, Jenni O’Malley, Megan O’Malley, Lisa Reilly, Áine Aherne, Róisín O’Connor, Justine Kennelly, Róisín Duffy, Laura Hanlon, Anna Mcguigan Orlagh Burke, Siadbh Redmond, Molly Tobin and Áine Murphy.
U16 LADIES FOOTBALL: Well done to the Super 16's White Team who captured the Shield in the County Final last weekend against a strong Ballylanders side. A fantastic team performance all round, The backs were very tight and gave little or nothing away. The 2 Midfielders were absolutely flyin it going from end to end. And the forwards were just mighty never giving up. Half way through the 2nd half exceptional goalkeeping skills were shown by Sophie Mulcahy who showed brilliant bravery by saving a penalty at a crucial time.
Panel: Sophie Mulcahy, Sophie McInerney , Zahraa Khan, Ella Hanley, Lucy Barry, Maria Conway, Sophia Neville, Eilís Ní Néil, Niamh Hynes, Emily McKenna, Emma Somers, Isabelle Kenny, Aibhlín Hassett, Holly Meagher, Rosa Harrington, Olivia O’Neill, Madison Stanners, Meabh Ryan, Aodhbha Wardle, Ava Murphy, Aoife Richardson, Aoibhinn Friel, Kate Moloney, Julianne Halpin, Caoimhe Maher.
Management: Caitríona Rice, Áine Coughlan, Hugh O’Neill, Will Boyce, James Ryan, John Horgan, Tony Murphy, Kevin Baggott, Pat Galvin.
U15 HURLING: Our U15 hurlers were out this morning in the Crescent Comprehensive where they played an equally matched Ballyshannon Gaels from Donegal. Thank you to the visiting team for a great match and to our players for togging out.
MILFORD HOSPICE:Well done to JJ Harrington who is now feeling the cold as he entrusted his brother, Liam to rid him of his long hair. All in aid of Milford hospice which JJ has currently €4250 raised for it.
JJ was supported by his team mates as his hair fell to the ground. It may be perfect timing as he sustained an injury last night at training which we wish him a speedy recovery in.
NA PIARSAIGH
SENIOR HURLING: Mick Neville Park was the venue for our senior county semi-final with Kilmallock our opponents. It was a typical October afternoon, grey and cold with the threat of rain. You would have needed to be out early to grab a spot in the new stand, it being close to capacity 20 minutes out from throw-in. Unfortunate news filtering around in the build up with Daithí and Cathall both ruled out due to injury. Alas, an opportunity for another Na Piarsaigh man to deputise in their place. In defence, Jerome would slot in at wing back with Vince shifting to the corner. Up front, it was a straight swap, brother for brother with Keith Dempsey filling in for Daithí at 14. Dylan Lynch retained his spot at corner forward after an exilerating 1-7 performance against Mungret the last day, while Mike also returned at full back.
Nine points was the winning margin in our last encounter with Kilmallock, all of five weeks ago in the sunny surrounds of Doon. But today, things were to be different, a whole new kettle of fish. Half time score: Na Piarsaigh 0-7 Kilmallock 0-11. A solid first 30 considering the slight breeze we were playing into although we couldn’t be banking on it come the second period. Final score: Na Piarsaigh 1-16 Kilmallock 0-18. A huge win for Shane O’Neill’s team. This was a game that required character, and our boys showed it in spades. Both teams brought an incredible level of intensity to this county semi-final and while at times it may not have been pretty, it was certainly entertaining. And maybe not great for the heart. Shane’s puck outs were on point all afternoon, while Mike was propped up well by Vince and Emmet in the fullback line. William O’Donoghue does William O’Donoghue things at center back with him also being well supported by Mike Foley and Jerome on the wings. You’d swear Jerome hadn’t sat out the last few months with the way he was moving today. He will no doubt kick it on again for two weeks time. Tommy worked his socks off at midfield with Conor Boylan being awesome up top. He doesn’t know when to stop that fella. Downsey, while not registering a score today, was immense throughout the 60 minutes, providing some key assists and making some colossal tackles.
We now look to Doon in the county final in two weeks time. Sunday, October 27 at 4pm to be exact, with the Gaelic Grounds confirmed as the venue. So get out the flags and bunting. We’re back where we want to be. Na Piarsaigh Abú!!!
Team: Shane Dowling, Vince Harrington, Mike Casey, Emmet McEvoy, Mike Foley(0-1), William O’Donoghue, Jerome Boylan, Ronan Lynch(1-9, 0-6f 0-2’65), Tommy Grimes, JJ Carey(0-2), Will Henn(0-2), Conor Boylan, Kevin Downes, Keith Dempsey, Dylan Lynch. Subs: Adrian Breen(0-1) for Keith(HT), Wayne Kearns(0-1) for Dylan(48mins), Sean Long for Tommy(55mins), John Fitz for JJ(57mins), Gearoid Synnott for Vince(inj)(64mins).

RESULTS: Our U14 boys travelled to Rathkeale on Saturday, October 12 where they played Caherconlish in the Shield Final. Oola faced Caherconlish earlier in the year where Caherconlish were victorious by a one point margin, so a close game was expected for the final. Oola started the game brilliantly and build up a great lead in the first half. Caherconlish fought back in the second half but Oola proved too strong winning out on a score line of Oola 5-5 Caherconlish 2-5. This showed Oola’s improvement over the year and look forward to seeing the boys back in action again in 2025. Thank you to the management and parents for their commitment during the year.

LADIES IN COUNTY FOOTBALL FINAL: This Sunday afternoon, all roads lead to Cappamore as Pallas Ladies prepare to face Monaleen in a thrilling quest for County Junior A football glory. The journey to this year's final has been nothing short of a roller coaster, filled with highs and lows. Each match has been a testament to their character and determination. Despite facing challenges and setbacks along the way, these young ladies have continually demonstrated their fighting spirit, particularly in their quarter-final and semi-final bouts.
In moments when the odds seemed against them, they dug deep and emerged victorious, showcasing not just skill but a massive belief in themselves and each other. A special nod must go to the management team and club officers whose preparation, support, and guidance have been pivotal throughout this campaign. Their dedication has laid a strong foundation for the team's success. As we look ahead to the final, let’s get behind these girls. PATRICKSWELL
SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell bowed out of the championship with a semi-final defeat to Doon after a remarkable encounter. Doon made a lightning start and scored six points without reply in the first ten minutes. While Aaron Gillane notched our first point of the match, Doon were 0-10 to 0-1 ahead by the 15th minute. Aaron Gillane's second point was overwhelmed by another Doon barrage of five consecutive points. To the amazement of the crowd, Doon were 0-15 to 0-2 ahead by the 20th minute and looked unstoppable. However, Patrickswell rallied strongly and pounded the East Men with a Patrick Kirby goal and four points from Aaron Gillane 0-2, Diarmaid Byrnes and Thomas O'Brien. Just before half-time, the large gap was trimmed to six points at 0-15 to 1-6. Despite Patrickswell having the momentum, Doon grabbed the final two points of the first half and led by 0-17 to 1-6.
Patrickswell were energetic at the start of the second half and profited from two points from Aaron Gillane and Patrick Kirby. The recovery was upset by the dismissal of Aaron Gillane. Despite the setback, a trio from Diarmaid Byrnes and another point from Evan Fitzgerald eroded the deficit to four points at 0-19 to 1-12. There were ten minutes left and a comeback was still possible. Unfortunately, Patrickswell were unable to score for another ten minutes and Doon plundered two points and two devastating goals to kill off the encounter. The game was beyond reach in the 58th minute at 2-21 to 1-12. While Kevin O'Brien bundled in a goal, Doon replied with three unanswered points to seal a 2-24 to 2-12 win.
JUNIOR A HURLERS: Patrickswell lost to Monaleen in the semi-final. The 'Well trailed narrowly by 0-4 to 0-3 after fifteen minutes (Barry Carey and Calvin Carroll 0-2). Monaleen had a spell of domination and extended their lead to 0-8 to 0-4 by the 20th minute. Barry Foley's goal put Patrickswell in touching distance, but an immediate goal and point from Monaleen increased their lead to five points. Calvin Carroll's brace on the cusp of half-time made the arrears 1-9 to 1-6.
Patrickswell made a terrible start to the second half by conceding a goal almost immediately. However, five points via Calvin Carroll 0-2, Shane Hannon, Barry Foley and Billy Earls kept Patrickswell in the hunt at 2-11 to 1-11 on 45 minutes. A devastating third goal from Monaleen seemed to decide the match, but Patrickswell still had a great chance on 55 minutes at 3-12 to 1-14 adrift (Billy Earls and Calvin Carroll 0-2). Monaleen found an extra gear and scored two points to open a six-point lead at the beginning of injury time. The game was put to bed when Monaleen claimed two goals in two minutes.
