LIMERICK will have an over 40s football team for the first time in 2023 after a number of like-minded people got together to assemble a management team and panel.
Trials were held over the last few months by the management team of Anthony McCarthy and Aidan O'Sullivan with a 36-player panel now confirmed. Jason Daly has also now part of the backroom setup.
The team will be captained by Maurice O'Connor of Mountcollins and contains several well known players of the past including Ciaran Carey and Michael Reidy.
The team are due to play six games in an open championship against local teams to determine seedings going forward. Teams will then be divided into four divisions on the back of results from those fixtures. There are currently 24 counties signed up for the 2023 season.
Fixtures for the open championship are set to be confirmed in the coming weeks and the games will be played under the umbrella of the Gaelic Masters Association.
